Chin & Cheek Implants

Mentoplasty (chin surgery) is a surgical procedure to reshape the chin by either augmenting or reducing it. Mentoplasty is often performed in conjunction with rhinoplasty (nose surgery).

Mentoplasty Procedure

Candidates for mentoplasty typically have a weak chin and/or prominent nose, or a prominent jaw.

Chin Augmentation

A well-defined chin helps to give balance to the face and creates a major part of your profile.  Mentoplasty, or chin augmentation, is used to enhance the profile and/or facial contours.

Non Surgical Chin Augmentation

Today, with the use of injectable fillers, patients get instantaneous results. Although not permanent, they have the advantage of being adjustable.

For someone desiring a more permanent correction, a surgical implant can be used.

Surgical mentoplasty that augments the chin takes approximately 45 minutes to an hour to perform. Either local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia is used. During the procedure, an incision is made inside the mouth, which eliminates visible scarring. A pocket is created for the implant which is then placed and positioned. The patient returns home the same day.

Chin Reduction

Mentoplasty that reduces the chin takes approximately one hour to perform. General anesthesia is typically used. The procedure begins with the surgeon making an incision inside the mouth or under the chin. Excess tissue is removed. The patient returns home the same day.

Risks Of Mentoplasty

In general, serious complications are rare. Your surgeon will discuss your specific situation.

Cheek Augmentation

As with chin implantation, today most cheek enlargements are done with injectable fillers with the same advantages.

Cheek augmentation using surgical cheek implants is an option for those who want a more permanent correction.

Risks Of Cheek Implants

In addition to the risks associated with any surgery, your physician will discuss your specific situation.
