What Is Juvederm?

As you age, you've probably noticed more fine lines and wrinkles on your face. Luckily, you have options to correct these and help your skin look younger again, and they don't all involve surgery.

One non-surgical option is Juvederm, a dermal filler that is injected into your face to fill in folds and wrinkles. It helps to restore volume to the skin, and smooth away moderate-to-severe facial wrinkles and folds. This noninvasive procedure will leave you with impressive, long-lasting results. Before you decide if Juvederm is right for you, check out the facts about this procedure.

How It Works

Juvederm is a gel made with hyaluronic acid. Since this substance is naturally found in the body, you can feel confident that your body will tolerate the gel once it's injected. Juvederm helps to plump up the areas of your face that have lost some fullness with age, and the result is a more youthful look.

Many people who get Juvederm typically want to fill in the fine lines that often appear around the nose, mouth and forehead. Note that Juvederm is not permanent, but the results do last longer than some similar treatments, and depending on the Juvederm product used, can last about nine months or more.

Types of Juvederm

There are several types of Juvederm, and each one has its own benefits. Your doctor can help you choose the one that's right for you, depending on what kind of results you want.

Juvederm ULTRA XC

Juvederm Ultra XC is best for the facial tissue around the nasolabial folds that go from the nose to the mouth, these are commonly called laugh lines or smile lines. It's also great for lip lines, corners of the mouth, wrinkles of the cheeks, forehead, and lip enhancement. Juvderm XC can essentially be used wherever necessary and contains lidocaine to improve comfort during the injections.

Juvederm Vollure XC

Juvederm Vollure XC is used to treat moderate to severe lines in the lower face, specifically lines around the sides of the mouth, nasal labial folds and marionette lines. Juvederm Vollure XC provides you with results that last up to 18 months.

Juvederm Voluma

Perfect for people who have experienced a visible decrease in cheek volume, sagging of the cheeks, or the loss of noticeable contour around the chin, Juvederm Voluma is specifically formulated to add volume to the face around the cheeks and chin.

This is the only injectable gel that provides a subtle, natural enhancement to the mid-face and addresses changes in definition that occur over time. It works to help restore a more youthful contour by plumping up the areas that often lose volume as part of aging. It can also return a firmer shape to the jaw line when some softening has set in.

JUVÉDERM Voluma is not only an effective treatment method, but it's also long lasting. In many patients, the results will last up to 18 months.

Juvederm Volbella XC

Juvederm Volbella XC is designed to restore a natural-looking lip volume and fill in the lines around the mouth, resulting in a smooth mouth area without ever giving you "duck lips." It's the only dermal filler clinically proven to last up to 12 months with a single treatment, longer than any other dermal fillers available today.

Volbella is formulated with an innovative technology that keeps swelling to a minimum and the super-fine needles reduce swelling and bruising significantly. Plus Volbella contains Lidocaine, a painkilling anesthetic, making this procedure virtually painless.

What to Expect When You Get Juvederm

Since there's no surgery involved, there isn't much of a recovery time for people who get Juvederm injections. Since Juvederm contains Lidocaine to minimize discomfort there is no need for additional anesthesia, but some patients may still elect to use a topical anesthetic on the area to be treated before receiving the injection. Once you arrive at your appointment, your doctor will numb the part of your face that will get the injection (or use anesthesia if that's what you prefer), then use a needle to deliver the gel underneath your skin. You'll see results immediately after the appointment.

After you have Juvederm, you'll be advised to avoid touching the treated part of your face for a couple of days. You should also stay out of extreme hot or cold temperatures for about two weeks. Other than that, there's not much you have to change about your normal routine once you have Juvederm.

If you want a simple way to look younger without undergoing surgery, you should look into Juvederm. No matter where the wrinkles and fine lines in your face are located, Juvederm will likely be able to fill them in so they're much less noticeable. You can even get plumper lips when you get Juvederm. If you have any questions about this procedure or want to schedule your appointment, contact Cosmetic Surgery of New York today!
