As an important part of the recovery process after getting breast implants, massage will help to break up any scar tissue that may be forming as your body is healing from surgery. However, before you start to massage your breasts, it’s important to know exactly how to massage them so that you get the best results.
Step 1: Before you start massaging your breasts and implants, remove your top and bra.
Step 2: With both hands on one breast, start applying gentle pressure in order to move the implant down and away from your natural breast tissue for about 10 seconds. By separating the implant away from the breast tissue, you'll help to prevent against any scar tissue from forming— which can be painful later on. When applying pressure, make sure that you are applying enough to move the implant but not so much that you're experiencing pain. Although you won’t rupture your implant when applying pressure, you don’t want to injure yourself in the process.
Step 3: Repeat step 2 on each breast every day for about 1-2 weeks or as your doctor recommends.
Some Things to Remember:
As you're healing from your breast augmentation surgery, it’s important to keep a few things in mind:
- Listen to your body: Just because your friend who got the same surgery recovered in one week doesn’t mean that you will, too. One of the best things you can do while in recovery is to listen to your body. If you're feeling sore and tired, take a break from any strenuous activity. If your breasts are tender for a few weeks following surgery, continue to wrap them. By listening to your body, you can help speed up your recovery and avoid any future problems.
- It takes time: Although you may want to get in a bikini or go on a run the day after you get your breast augmentation, it’s just not feasible. Your body is a machine that needs time in order to heal from any type of surgery— especially a breast surgery. Remember that as soon as you heal, you'll have the rest of your life to enjoy your new breasts.
